Go to the Destination dropdown menu, located on the right side of the Import Dialogue Box. Select a Destination for Importing Your Images You can also add Metadata presets if you have them as well as keywords. This is a very useful section in the import process because you can apply presets under the РІР‚СљDevelop SettingsРІР‚Сњ dropdown menu to minimize repetitive tasks for editing your photos (see example above). Preset options under the Apply During Import dropdown menu We usually avoid renaming files during import because the file names wonРІР‚в„ўt match up to the location from which you imported the images, but your preference may vary depending on your workflow. We donРІР‚в„ўt generally use this option, but it does come in handy. Make a Second Copy To: If you want to back up the images when Copying them to a new folder, you can choose a destination under the РІР‚СљMake a Second Copy To:РІР‚Сњ dropdown menu.Р”Р„dd to Collection: You can also add your images to a collection, which can come in handy organizing your files into specific categories, such as РІР‚СљTrucksРІР‚Сњ under an РІР‚СљAutomobilesРІР‚Сњ folder, for example. When using Smart Previews, youРІР‚в„ўll probably see a decline in overall quality when you are viewing the images in the Develop module, but the image quality will look great when you export the files.Р”ВonРІР‚в„ўt Import Suspected Duplicates: We recommend leaving the РІР‚СљDonРІР‚в„ўt Import Suspected DuplicatesРІР‚Сњ option checked for obvious reasons. If you choose this route, we suggest you render your images at a later time before editing them. If you intend to sort through and cull the images first, rather than begin editing, then we suggest turning your previews off and switching your РІР‚СљBuild PreviewsРІР‚Сњ too minimal (see the image above). You can check images in a number of ways, as illustrated in the images below:Р”В«uild Previews set to Minimal in Lightroom Any image thatРІР‚в„ўs checked will be imported, and any image that isnРІР‚в„ўt checked will not be imported. When importing photos, youРІР‚в„ўll need to РІР‚СљcheckРІР‚Сњ the images you want imported. The files are simply РІР‚СљreferencedРІР‚Сњ rather than copied. It takes longer to РІР‚СљmoveРІР‚Сњ files than it does to РІР‚СљaddРІР‚Сњ them, which we discuss below.Р”Р„dd: Adding files from an existing folder is a quick and convenient way to populate your LR catalog with your images. The РІР‚СљmoveРІР‚Сњ option copies files to a designated folder and then deletes the files from the source folder. Move: This option works well for importing images from existing folders on your computer, but it should be used with caution.

This option is best used if you need to copy files from a memory card otherwise, you may be creating duplicates. This is a more time-consuming import option and can run twice as long as the РІР‚СљcopyРІР‚Сњ option, which is outlined below.Р”В¬opy: This option imports the original raw file as it was captured in your camera and stores the files in whichever location/folder you designate for import.

Here are the four import options as noted above about the РІР‚СљcenterРІР‚Сњ section of AdobeРІР‚в„ўs Import Dialogue box:Р”В¬opy as DNG: This option copies files from the import source and converts the files into the DNG file format as theyРІР‚в„ўre imported. Once youРІР‚в„ўve located your file source for importing images, youРІР‚в„ўll need to decide how you want them imported into your Lightroom catalog.
